Manchester City's Joao Cancelo believes he has become a better all-round player under Pep Guardiola and praises the Spaniard for helping him adapt to different positions.

Joao Cancelo believes he has become a better all-round player under the tutelage of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and has praised the Spaniard for helping him adapt to different positions.

Since arriving from Juventus in 2019, the 27-year-old has become renowned for his versatility, playing in either full-back role, which on many occasions has seen him occupy midfield positions in Guardiola's unique system.

City have had issues in the left-back department over the years, however Cancelo is seemingly Guardiola's first-choice this campaign and the Portuguese international is happy to help the team in any position when required.

"I was brought up and developed as a right-back. However, I like to be versatile because during the year there are lots of injuries, so I want to help the team and I can adapt to any position the manager needs me," Cancelo told the Manchester Evening News.

"[Guardiola] has helped me a lot in adapting to different positions on the pitch and I feel today I'm a much better player, both mentally, physically and tactically. I try to adapt to the team the best way I can to help to achieve our goals.

"I'm happy to be able to play in different positions. I think I'm the sort of player every team wants to have in their squad for my versatility. There are a lot of situations throughout the season, injuries, problems. So I'm always ready to help the group, whether it is as a right-back, left-back, midfielder, etc. What the manager wants me to do, I'll always try to do my best to help the team."

Cancelo is one of only two outfield players for Man City, along with compatriot Ruben Dias, to have played in every minute of the Premier League so far this campaign, keeping five clean sheets in the process.
