How Newcastle United could line up against Liverpool

Sports Mole looks at how Newcastle United could line up for their final home game of the season as they host title-chasing Liverpool at St James' Park.

Newcastle United host Liverpool on Saturday as both teams prepare for their penultimate game of the season.

The Magpies head into the fixture in good form, having taken seven points from their last three games, and will look to impress in their final home game of the campaign.

Despite a disappointing defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday, Jurgen Klopp's side travel to St James' Park with high confidence after winning seven consecutive league games.

Liverpool will need to take all three points if they hope to continue their challenge for the title and keep pressure on current league frontrunners Manchester City.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at how Newcastle could line up against the Merseyside giants.

Possible NEW XI vs. LIV
Out: Longstaff (knee), Lejeune (knee), Almiron (hamstring)
Doubtful: Perez (hip)

Rafael Benitez will likely stick with the same formation fielded in his most recent outings, aiming to soak up pressure and hit Liverpool on the counter-attack.

Club captain Jamaal Lascelles may make a return at the heart of the defence alongside Paul Dummett and Fabian Schar as Newcastle aim to add to their nine clean sheets so far this season.

Christian Atsu will likely retain his place on the right side of midfield after record signing Miguel Almiron suffered an injury against Southampton.

Ayoze Perez, Newcastle's top goalscorer this season with 11, is doubtful having limped off in their last fixture against Brighton, and Brazilian winger Kenedy seems the most likely to replace him.

Salomon Rondon will once again lead the line as the lone target man having been directly involved in 44% of Newcastle's goals this season - the second-highest ratio in the league behind only Eden Hazard.
