Late penalty secures draw for Getafe

Getafe twice come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with Almeria in La Liga.

An 85th-minute penalty saw Getafe come from behind to seal a 2-2 draw with Almeria in La Liga this evening.

There were few chances in the opening half-hour, but the visitors were able to edge ahead in the 30th minute thanks to a powerful strike from Rodri.

Almeria's lead lasted less than two minutes, as the home side immediately delivered the ball into the box, with Lafita rising high to head the ball past Suarez Esteban.

Valera looked to give Getafe the lead just moments later, delivering a dangerous cross in for Borja, but the visiting keeper was able to make the clearance.

However, Almeria were able to edge in front again before half time, as Fernando Soriano smashed the ball in after Miguel Moya had denied Suso.

Verza tried to give Almeria a two-goal cushion with an ambitious volley from outside the box early in the second half, but Moya was able to make the save, while Rodri had a chance to add his second, picking the ball up from Suso before losing the ball to Rafa Lopez.

It looked as though Getafe had done enough to seal all three points, but a foul from Rafita on Lafita gave the hosts a penalty inside the final five minutes, allowing Diego Castro to slot the ball in from the spot.

Pedro Leon had a chance to snatch victory for Getafe in the final moments of the match with a long-range effort, but Esteban kept it out to ensure that the scores finished level.
