Maren Mjelde earns Norway draw against Germany in Women's World Cup

Norway secure a point in their clash against Germany as Maren Mjelde cancels out Anja Mittag's first-half strike in their Group B match at the 2015 Women's World Cup.

Maren Mjelde's second-half strike earned Norway a point in their 1-1 draw with Germany in Group B at the 2015 Women's World Cup this evening.

Germany took the lead in the sixth minute when Dzsenifer Marozsan drilled a shot from the edge of the box, which was not held by Ingrid Hjelmseth and Anja Mittag was on hand to knock in the rebound.

Alexandra Popp came close to doubling her side's lead as she latched on to a free kick from the right, but she headed wide of the target by inches.

Popp then blasted a free kick from just outside the box through the wall, which was well held by Hjelmseth on the line.

Popp had another opportunity just before the break when she rose highest in the area from a corner, but her header went past the post once more.

Isabell Herlovsen had a good chance to get Norway level before the whistle as she collected a loose ball inside the area, but her drive towards the top corner was well saved by Nadine Angerer.

However, from the resulting corner Angerer's attempted punch almost landed in the back of her own net as the ball went backwards and clipped the top of the crossbar.

In the second half, Germany won a free kick right on the edge of the box and Marozsan took the set piece, but she could only direct her effort wide of the target.

Minutes later, Norway earned a free kick on the edge of the box as Saskia Bartusiak brought down Ingrid Moe Wold. Mjelde took the set piece and bent her strike over the wall and into the top corner to net the equaliser.

Both sides tried to push for a winner and Lena Lotzen came close for Germany, while at the other end Ada Hegerberg saw her strike at the near post well held by Angerer as the teams were forced to settle for a point.
