Colorado Rapids' James Riley denies San Jose Earthquakes victory

A late strike from James Riley cancels out Chris Wondolowski's opener to secure a point for the Colorado Rapids in their MLS clash against the San Jose Earthquakes.

James Riley struck at the death to secure a point for the Colorado Rapids in their MLS match against the San Jose Earthquakes.

The visitors could have taken the lead early on when Adam Jahn fired an effort towards goal that was beaten away by Clint Irwin, but the ball rebounded to Sanna Nyassi, who then saw his strike blocked by the keeper.

San Jose did go ahead in the 18th minute as the home side failed to clear their lines from a corner and Chris Wondolowski was able to coast in at the back post to slot Nyassi's cross into the net.

Colorado nearly hit back when Dillon Powers released the run of Gabriel Torres through the middle, but his strike was well blocked by David Bingham.

In the second half, Cordell Cato raided down the right flank for the visitors and almost found the back of the net as he fired a low ball across the face of goal, which looked to be heading into the net before Irwin made the stop.

The Rapids introduced Vicente Sanchez into the game and the forward almost brought his team level when he fired at goal from distance, although his effort was beaten away by Bingham.

Colorado pressed to get their equaliser into stoppage time and were rewarded as Bingham's poor punch from a corner was met by the head of Riley and his looping effort found the back of the net.

There was still time for the Rapids to come inches away from stealing all three points as Axel Sjoberg's header from a corner clattered off the crossbar and bounced on the line before the Earthquakes cleared to see out the draw.
