Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink plays down talk of John Terry making England return

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink plays down talk of a potential England return for defender John Terry.

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink has played down suggestions that John Terry could return to the England fold.

The 35-year-old retired from international duty in 2012, but there has been talk of a surprise recall after Three Lions manager Roy Hodgson appeared to leave the door open for the centre-back.

The question of a potential return for Terry was raised after England conceded four goals in international friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands over the past week.

In light of Hodgson's claims that he and Terry recently had a "long chat", Hiddink was asked in Friday's press conference about a potential international comeback for his captain.

"I think it is a little bit overvalued, whether they had a conversation," Hiddink told reporters. "It was no issue for either of them. John is doing his job for Chelsea and has decided already a few years ago not to be available for England, whatever the reason might be.

"You can ask him but I don't know. What I know is he likes to play football. We didn't talk about [him playing for England]."

With regards to his club future, Terry could leave Chelsea at the end of the season as his contract is due to expire in the summer.
