Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Newcastle United

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Saturday's Premier League fixture with Newcastle United.

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Newcastle United.

Frank Lampard's side went into the international break having put together a run of four successive victories in all competitions, the latest being a 4-1 triumph over Southampton at St Mary's.

However, since their win on the south coast, there have been developments, both positive and negative, regarding the players who currently find themselves in the treatment room.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension list for the West Londoners ahead of squaring off against the Magpies.

N'Golo Kante

Status: Out
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: October 23 (vs. Ajax)

Despite making his return from a hamstring injury before the international break, Kante has now sustained an issue with his groin. Lampard has revealed that the Frenchman will play no part of this weekend's match.

Andreas Christensen

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: November 5 (vs. Ajax)

Christensen sustained a hamstring injury while on international duty with Denmark, which Lampard claims will see the centre-back remain on the sidelines for a couple of weeks.

Mateo Kovacic

Status: Slight doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Newcastle)

Towards the end of the first half of Croatia's match with Wales on Sunday, Kovacic sustained a knock to his knee during a tackle with Ben Davies. However, despite being forced off at the break, Kovacic is in contention for the meeting with the Magpies.

Emerson Palmieri

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: October 19 (vs. Newcastle)

Lampard has previously suggested that Palmieri will not be ready to return until after the international break. However, given Chelsea's hectic run of fixtures, no risks will be taken with the Italy international.

Antonio Rudiger
