Meanwhile, John Terry has failed to recover from an ankle injury and misses out altogether for the match.

Branislav Ivanovic replaces Terry in the centre of defence, while Oscar comes in for the injured Eden Hazard. Fernando Torres starts up front on his own.

Former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is in the Benfica starting XI, but top scorer Lima starts the game among the substitutes.
