Brisbane Roar hold on to secure victory over struggling Western Sydney Wanderers

Brandon Borrello scores the only goal of the game as Brisbane Roar edge out Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 at the Suncorp Stadium.

Brisbane Roar continued their impressive recent resurgence by beating Western Sydney Wanderers 1-0 at the Suncorp Stadium this morning.

The Orange, who have now lost just one of their last seven games, have climbed into the top six in the A-League ladder, while a struggling Wanderers side remain rooted to the foot of the table.

Roar have had to manage a lot of travelling this week due to their Asian Champions League commitments, but did well to muster an opportunity early on, only for Jean Carlos Solorzano to be crowded out as he attempted a shot.

The Costa Rican was nearly on the end of Jerome Polenz's cross shortly after as the home side pressed for a breakthrough goal, yet they were unable to find a way through prior to the interval.

It took just eight minutes of the second half for them to edge ahead, however, as Brandon Borrello slalomed his way through a number of bodies before finishing into the bottom corner.

Borrello came close to doubling his personal tally for the day when dinking a shot which came back off the crossbar.

Western Sydney saw a chance to level up come and go when Nikolai Topor-Stanley's header was pushed away by Jamie Young, while Tomi Juric thundered a shot against the bar in the second minute of added time as Brisbane held out for a slender victory.
