Judging by their head-to-head record, Brighton have struggled to beat Aston Villa over the years, as they have a win percentage of just 16.6% against the Midlands outfit.

Villa are used to dominating this fixture, especially during the Premier League era (since 1992-93), where they were on a run of five straight wins from 2021 until 2023.

Brighton’s final defeat in that sequence was a 6-1 drubbing at Villa Park - Villa’s biggest-ever win against the Seagulls.

Ollie Watkins struck a hat-trick during the lunchtime kickoff, with Ansu Fati netting the only goal for Brighton. Pervis Estupinan was also on the scoresheet, but he netted an unfortunate own goal.

While Brighton got some sort of revenge with a 1-0 win in their next matchup, the Seagulls have since failed to win any of their last three meetings, including two defeats and one draw.

The latest of those defeats came in November 2025 and was a seven-goal thriller that saw Brighton squander a 2-0 lead to devastatingly lose 4-3.

The very first meeting between the clubs took place back in 1910 in what was then known as the FA Charity Shield, with Brighton securing a slender 1-0 victory.
