Arsenal issue a statement in response to Robin van Persie's decision to go public with his intention not to renew his contract.

Arsenal have released a statement in reaction to Robin van Persie's decision not to renew his contract with the club.

It has been reported that the Gunners were not aware that their skipper had intended to make his wish public knowledge on his personal website.

While revealing that they "respect" the striker's decision, the club have suggested that they now expect him to stay at the Emirates Stadium for the remaining 12 months of his deal.

"

We have to respect Robin's decision not to renew his contract," read the statement. "Robin has one year to run on his current contract and we are confident that he will fulfil his commitments to the club.

"We are planning with ambition and confidence for next season with Arsenal's best interests in mind."

Sports Mole has examined five of the options that could now be available to the centre-forward.
