Alexis Sanchez's record vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of Saturday's North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, Sports Mole looks into Alexis Sanchez's past record when facing Spurs.

Arsenal will host fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the first North London derby of the season this weekend bidding to bounce back from defeat to Premier League leaders Manchester City before the international break.

The Gunners dropped to sixth place courtesy of that loss at the Etihad Stadium, and a second consecutive defeat to a top-six rival could leave them as many as 15 points adrift of City after only 12 games of the season.

Bragging rights are also up for grabs, and Arsenal will be desperate to reassert some dominance over their nearest neighbours after finishing behind them in the table for the first time in 22 years last term.

Key to their hopes of doing that will be Alexis Sanchez, whose form has been questioned so far this season as debate over his future rages on.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how he has fared against Tottenham in the past.

Sanchez's first encounter with Tottenham actually came during his time at Udinese, who provided the opposition during the group stages of the 2008-09 UEFA Cup.

The Chilean only played in the home leg and was unable to get on the scoresheet during his 79 minutes on the field - although Udinese did go on to win the match 2-0 over Juande Ramos's side.

Sanchez's first taste of a North London derby unsurprisingly came at the first available opportunity - a September 2014 clash at the Emirates Stadium. However, the attacker was left on the bench from the start, only coming on with less than half an hour remaining as the two sides drew 1-1 courtesy of goals from Nacer Chadli and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Sanchez was not in the squad as Arsenal slumped to a 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane later that season, and he was again resigned to a substitute role in their first meeting of the following campaign as Arsenal ran out 2-1 winners in the third round of the EFL Cup.

The former Barcelona man did make his first North London derby start when Arsenal visited White Hart Lane again for a Premier League match in November, although he once again drew a blank as the Gunners needed a late equaliser from Kieran Gibbs to earn a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

Sanchez finally got on the scoresheet for the first - and so far only - time against Spurs in the reverse fixture later that season, netting a 76th-minute equaliser to ensure that his side came away with a 2-2 draw.

The Chile international started in a centre-forward role when the two sides met at the Emirates last season as they played out a third consecutive draw, with Harry Kane cancelling out Kevin Wimmer's own goal.

It wasn't until the most recent meeting in April that Sanchez fell to his first defeat at the hands of Tottenham, with Spurs running out 2-0 winners on Arsenal's final visit to White Hart Lane courtesy of goals from Dele Alli and Kane.
