Preview: Alaves vs. Getafe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Alaves and Getafe, including team news and predicted lineups.

Getafe will be looking to make it back-to-back wins at the start of their 2020-21 La Liga campaign when they travel to Alaves on Saturday afternoon.

The capital club opened their season with a 1-0 win over Osasuna last weekend, while Alaves have lost their first two league matches against Real Betis and Granada.

Alaves have impressed since earning promotion to La Liga for the 2016-17 campaign, where they actually finished ninth during a brilliant season. Last term was somewhat of a disappointment, though, ending the season in 16th, only three points outside of the bottom three.

Pablo Machin's side have had a tough start to this season, meanwhile, losing their opener at home to Real Betis on September 13 before suffering a 2-1 defeat at Granada last weekend.

Alaves have not been overly busy during this summer's transfer window, but they have managed to acquire Florian Lejeune on loan from Newcastle United, while Brazilian forward Deyverson has arrived on loan from Palmeiras - two potentially key signings in their battle to stay in the league.

Each of the last two league meetings between these two teams have finished level, but Alaves have not actually beaten Getafe in their last four outings in Spain's top flight.

Getafe, meanwhile, started their 2020-21 La Liga campaign with a 1-0 victory at home to Osasuna last weekend courtesy of a second-half strike from Jaime Mata.

Jose Bordalas's side finished eighth in La Liga last season, missing out on a spot in the Europa League by two points, which will go down as a disappointment as they claimed fifth in 2018-19.

The capital outfit did reach the last-16 stage of the Europa League, though, and have had a busy summer in terms of incomings, with Marc Cucurella, Enes Unal and Cucho Hernandez among those to arrive.

Getafe will be determined to win their next two in the league away to Alaves and at home to Real Betis before two difficult games in October against Real Sociedad and Barcelona.

Team News

Lucas Perez was not involved in Alaves' clash with Granada last weekend amid suggestions that the Spaniard could leave the club before the end of this summer's transfer window.

As a result, Deyverson is again expected to line up alongside Joselu in the final third of the field, but the home side still have some injury issues ahead of the match.

Tomas Pina will again be unavailable due to a foot problem, while Adrian Marin and Manu Garcia are both expected to miss out once again.

As for Getafe, Filip Manojlovic remains on the sidelines with a back injury, but the capital side are otherwise in good shape when it comes to absentees for this match.

There are not expected to be many alterations from the side that started against Osasuna, with Hernandez again likely to join Mata as part of a front two.

Cucurella should continue on the left, while a strong bench is expected to include both Unal and Angel, which is an indication of Bordalas's options in the final third of the field.

Alaves possible starting lineup:
Pacheco; Laguardia, Ely, Lejeune; Mendez, Mahmoud, Battaglia, Pons, Rioja; Joselu, Deyverson

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Suarez, Dakonam, Etxeita, Olivera; Nyom, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Cucurella; Mata, Hernandez

We say: Alaves 0-2 Getafe

Alaves have made a poor start to the 2020-21 campaign, but Getafe picked up a solid win over an impressive Osasuna side. The visitors will be looking to put another three points on the board, and we are expecting the capital side to triumph in routine fashion.
