Chinese fencer Lei Sheng produced an inspired performance to claim gold in the men's individual foil.
Sheng came up against spirited Egyptian Alaaeldin Abouelkassem in the final, who fought fiercely but has to settle for a silver medal.
The gold medal match was level at 11-11 going into the final end of action, with Sheng doing just enough to take the victory 15-13.
Earlier, South Korea's Byungchul Choi picked up the bronze honour, defeating Andrea Baldini of Italy.
