Miley Cyrus challenging for number one with Midnight Sky

Miley Cyrus is challenging Ariana Grande for top spot on this week's UK singles chart, according to midweek data.

Miley Cyrus is challenging Ariana Grande for top spot on the UK singles chart this week, according to data from the Official Charts Company.

Grande has spent two weeks at the summit with 'Positions', taken from the album of the same name, which opened atop the albums chart on Friday.

As things stand, Cyrus is up to two with her slow-burner 'Midnight Sky', helped largely by a remix featuring Stevie Nicks and her iconic song 'Edge of Seventeen' - with just 1,000 chart sales separating it from 'Positions' after the first 48 hours of sales.

Little Mix's 'Sweet Melody' is up eight places to four, while Sam Smith's 'Diamonds' inches into the top 10 at 9.

Kylie Minogue has two entries in the midweek top 20 following the release of her new album Disco on Friday, with 'Say Something' and 'Magic' at 16 and 19 respectively.
