Little Mix on course for second week at number one

Little Mix are in pole position to claim a second week at number one with 'Sweet Melody' but face competition from Ed Sheeran's 'Afterglow'.

Little Mix are on track to make it a second week on top of the singles chart with 'Sweet Melody'.

The track - first released in October - ascended to the summit in last week's chart, in the process becoming the girls' fifth UK number one and their first as a trio following Jesy Nelson's departure from the band.

According to midweek data from the Official Charts Company, Ed Sheeran is their nearest challenger this week - and after 48 hours of sales, his surprise single 'Afterglow' is trailing by just 250 charts sales in second place.

Shane Codd's 'Get Out My Head' is up five places to four in the midweeks, while 'Paradise' from Meduza featuring Dermot Kennedy rises to number five.

As it stands, the highest new entry of the week comes from Bugzy Malone, who is tracking at number 20 with 'Notorious'.
