The BBC has confirmed that filming will not resume on series 34 of Top Gear following a serious accident involving presenter Freddie Flintoff.
The former England cricketer, who had co-hosted the show since 2019, had to be airlifted to hospital in December when a car he was in flipped at high speed.
The 45-year-old is believed to have suffered facial injuries and broken ribs in the incident, as well as psychological effects caused by the traumatic chain of events.
Filming has been on hiatus since the incident, while Flintoff has yet to be seen publicly - and now the BBC has announced that the series has been scrapped.
A statement from BBC Studios said: "We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.
"Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34 of Top Gear at this time.
"We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we'll make a judgment about how best to continue later this year.
"This has also impacted the production team, who we continue to support. Finally, there will be a health and safety review of the show, in line with our procedures."
The show had been due to return to the BBC One schedules this spring.
