Ewen MacIntosh, best known for playing the comedy role of Big Keith in The Office, dies at the age of 50.

Ewen MacIntosh, best known for playing the comedy role of Big Keith in The Office, has died at the age of 50.

The actor had been battling ill health for the last two years and died on Monday at a care home in Darlington.

During his career he also appeared in shows including EastEnders, Miranda, Little Britain and After Life

MacIntosh's agency said in a statement: "With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved comedy genius Ewen MacIntosh.

"His family thank all who supported him, especially Willow Green Care Home.

"There will be a private cremation for family & close friends soon & a celebratory memorial later in the year."

The Office co-creator Ricky Gervais said: "Extremely sad news. The very funny and very lovely Ewen MacIntosh, known to many as 'Big Keith' from The Office, has passed away. An absolute original. RIP."

The star's agency added that a private cremation for family and friends will be held soon, with a celebratory memorial following later in the year.
