Tamsin Greig pays tribute to Friday Night Dinner co-star Paul Ritter in a piece for The Guardian.

Tamsin Greig has written a tribute to her close friend and Friday Night Dinner co-star Paul Ritter following his death at the age of 54 this week.

The actor - Greig's on-screen husband in the Channel 4 comedy - died on Monday after a battle with a brain tumour.

In a piece for The Guardian, Greig revealed that she had worked with Ritter one final time several weeks ago, recording a drama adaptation for BBC Radio 4.

"It took enormous courage and effort for him to record the drama remotely from his home when he was so ill, and I am honoured that he so willingly agreed to do it," she wrote.

"It is a fine legacy and tribute to his artistry, and a gift of time and experience that I will treasure."

She added: "I am eternally grateful that our paths crossed. His kindness, attention to detail and phenomenal memory, his passion for music and football, his devotion to his beautiful family, his complete inability to accept a compliment, and his quiet, loyal, compassionate friendship will stay with me for ever.

"The world is a less brilliant place without Paul in it. Go lightly, my friend. You are deeply beloved."

Channel 4's planned Friday Night Dinner night to mark the show's 10th anniversary later this year will now be dedicated to Ritter's memory.
