'90s TV legend Jeremy Spake is to return for a new series of Airport, more than 25 years after the show first aired on the BBC.
The original documentary series was a fly-on-the-wall look at the staff and passengers at Heathrow Airport and made a household name out of Spake, who worked as the ground services manager for Russian airline Aeroflot.
The new six-part series, called Inside The Airport: The Return Of Jeremy Spake, will see the 52-year-old return to Heathrow to see how the aviation industry is attempting to bounce back from the devastating effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
"While Covid has been truly devastating for the airline industry globally, it also provides a first chance in more than 20 years to reaffirm high standards, outstanding quality of service and perhaps most importantly gives us an opportunity to press the reset button, by under promising and over-delivering to customers who are eager to reconnect with others face to face," said Spake. "I am delighted to be back at Heathrow and of course BBC One!"
The return of Airport is one of five new factent commissions announced by the BBC; other shows include Unbreakable, a competition series featuring seven celebrity couples; Trailblazers, following Ruby Wax, Melanie Brown and Emily Atack as they attempt Isabella Bird's infamous trek across the American Wild West; Warrior Island, a challenge show set on a tropical island for BBC Three; and The Speedshop, in which battered vehicles will receive stunning transformations.
