Eamonn Holmes has launched a fresh attack on his former ITV colleague Phillip Schofield, accusing him of being "absolutely addicted to fame".

Schofield lost his job as host of This Morning last year after admitting that he lied to his bosses about having an affair with a younger colleague.

Holmes, who also used to present the daytime show, was one of the most vocal critics of the 62-year-old, branding him "a narcissist and a bully" at the time the scandal came to light.

This week Schofield made his return to the airwaves with a self-shot documentary for Channel 5 set on a remote island - and Holmes was quick to give his reaction on his GB News breakfast show.

"I believe he is where he deserves to be," he said, before being informed about comments from the show in which Schofield accused people of 'throwing him under the bus'.

"Well if I'm one of the people who threw him under the bus I'm very proud to have done it," Holmes responded.

"This man is addicted to fame, absolutely addicted to fame."

He added: "I know people in junior positions in television and if I thought they were being taken advantage of in such a way then somebody needs to stand up and say 'people like him shouldn't exist and shouldn't be allowed'."

Phillip Schofield Cast Away concludes on Channel 5 at 9pm on Wednesday night.
