The BBC confirms that the revival of Gladiators will be back for a second series.

The BBC has confirmed that Gladiators will be returning for a second series ahead of this weekend's series one final.

The revival of the competitive action show has been a bona fide ratings hit, with the first episode drawing 9.8 million viewers and the series overall averaging 8.3 million to date.

The second series - again running to 11 episodes - will be filmed at the Sheffield Utilita Arena later this year for an expected broadcast in early 2025.

"Gladiators has really kicked this year off with a bang, and we're so delighted that the fans have come to the show in their masses," said Kalpna Patel-Knight, the BBC's head of entertainment.

"It has been wonderful to hear how much families have loved watching this together, as part of the BBC's Saturday evening entertainment offering. We can't wait for more action from the Gladiators."

Exec producer Dan Baldwin added: "It's no exaggeration to say that the response to Gladiators has been phenomenal. The episodes have been packed with nail-biting drama, thrilling action and huge emotion.

"Series 2 will see the show go from strength-to-strength. We have some amazing surprises in store for the fans. Are you ready?!?"

The final episode of Gladiators series one airs Saturday at 5.50pm on BBC One.
