The BBC picks up the rights to the first season of Superman & Lois and plans to air it on BBC One.

The BBC has announced that it has picked up the UK rights to new Superman series Superman & Lois.

The show, which airs on The CW in the US, follows Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) as they return to Smallville with their two sons and get caught up in defending the Earth against fresh threats.

The BBC has acquired the 15-episode first season and in an unusual move for a US acquisition, will air the show on BBC One on Saturdays in "an early evening slot".

Sue Deeks, the BBC's head of acquisitions, said: "Superman & Lois is an ambitious and involving new superhero series – one we are sure will intrigue and excite not just existing fans, but BBC viewers of all ages."

The first episode will air on BBC One on Saturday, December 4, with all 15 episodes becoming available on iPlayer on the same day.
