The BBC is reportedly hoping to sign up a member of the Royal Family for this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing.

Strictly Come Dancing producers are said to be keen to have a member of the extended Royal Family as a contestant on this year's show.

Earlier this year The Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee - marking a record-breaking 70 years on the throne - and the occasion was celebrated around the UK and the wider Commonwealth earlier this month.

According to The Sun, the BBC is hoping to capitalise on the Jubilee spirit by having at least one Royal as part of this year's Strictly lineup.

The newspaper names potential candidates as former rugby star Mike Tindall, husband of Princess Anne's daughter Zara; Lady Louise Windsor, The Queen's granddaughter; and Sophie Winkleman, wife of The Queen's second cousin Lord Frederick Windsor - and a half-sister of Strictly co-host Claudia Winkleman.

"The team are doing all they can," a source said.

"In the year of the Platinum Jubilee, it has been a real priority. It would be an incredible coup to secure a Royal."

The new series begins on BBC One in September.
