Tom Holland's new production of Romeo and Juliet will reportedly begin each night on the roof of the theatre.

A new West End production of Romeo and Juliet starring Tom Holland will reportedly begin each night with a live performance on the roof of the theatre.

The ambitious production of the Shakespeare classic will see the Spider-Man actor and his opposite number, newcomer Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, start the show on the roof of The Duke of York's Theatre.

Their performance will be filmed by multiple drones and beamed live in to the audience-goers inside the theatre, before the pair make their way down into the building and on to the stage.

A source told The Sun: "The play is being staged by The Jamie Lloyd Company which also produced Nicole Scherzinger's Olivier-winning West End show Sunset Boulevard last year.

"That had a scene which was filmed on the street each night and, for Romeo and Juliet, producers now want to push the envelope even further.

"They have hired at least two camera operators so the scenes can be captured. Everything is being worked on as we speak but they are really trying to make it happen."

The sold-out show starts this Saturday and runs until August 3.
