Sir Tom Jones recalls being at his "lowest point" following the death of his wife of 59 years in 2016.

Sir Tom Jones has admitted that he was at "the lowest point" of his life following the death of his wife Linda in 2016.

The couple married in 1957, when Linda was just 16, and remained together for 59 years until she died of lung cancer five years ago.

"I honestly didn't think I was going to get through it," the music legend told The Observer.

"I had to go and see a grief therapist because I kept thinking, 'Did I do enough? Was I on the case? Did she slip away without me really realising what was happening?'

"But the therapist said, 'No, she had lung cancer, there is nothing you could have done.'"

He added: "Before she died, she said, 'Don't think of me dying, think of me laughing'. That's how I remember her."

Jones remains active in the industry ahead of his 81st birthday in June and later this month he will release a new covers album - his 42nd studio release in a career spanning seven decades.
