Harvey Weinstein is on the verge of blindness and has also lost four teeth in jail, his lawyers reveal.

Disgraced media mogul Harvey Weinstein is allegedly on the verge of blindness as he serves a prison term for sexual assault.

The 69-year-old is a year into a 23-year sentence after being found guilty of multiple offences against women - allegations which sparked the worldwide #MeToo movement.

Weinstein is now facing another trial in Los Angeles, which could see his lingering hopes of a future release effectively destroyed, and is awaiting possible extradition from New York for the case to proceed.

Speaking at a hearing on Monday, however, lawyers for Weinstein argued that he is too fragile to be moved at present due to a number of health issues.

The former Hollywood producer is "technically blind", his representatives said, and he has lost at least four teeth in jail, while he is also suffering from cardiac issues, diabetes and back pain.

Weinstein continues to protest his innocence and remains confident that he will be successful with the Los Angeles trial.
