Jamal Edwards, founder of SBTV, dies at the age of 31.

Jamal Edwards, the founder of the influential music platform SBTV, has died at the age of 31.

The entrepreneur - son of the singer Brenda Edwards - is credited with launching the careers of a host of artists, including Dave, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Jessie J.

In 2014 he was made an MBE for services to music and was also an ambassador for the Prince's Trust.

AJ Tracey was among the first to pay tribute, posting on Twitter: "RIP Jamal Edwards, west london legend status"

Holy Moly founder and TV presenter Jamie East wrote: "I cannot overstate how fucking tragic it is to lose Jamal Edwards. Without a shadow of a doubt one of the brightest, generous and kindest person I've had the pleasure to know. A pioneer, a testament to entrepreneurship and hard work but above else just a lovely lovely man. Gutted."

In a statement, the MOBO Awards said: "We are deeply saddened to learn of Jamal Edwards passing. As the founder of SBTVonline, his groundbreaking work and legacy in British music and culture will live on. Our hearts and thoughts are with his friends and family."

A cause of death has not been disclosed.
