Marianne Faithfull takes to Twitter to post a letter of gratitude to the NHS after overcoming coronavirus in hospital.

Legendary singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull has posted her first message on social media after overcoming coronavirus.

The 73-year-old 'Broken English' singer returned home last month after spending 22 days in hospital battling the deadly disease.

Returning to Twitter yesterday, Faithfull, who has a history of health problems, posted a letter of gratitude to the NHS staff who looked after her and "basically saved my life!"

"I would like to say to all the people who cared for me and thought of me, who sent me love, people I know, people I have never met, thank you for helping me to get better......" she wrote.

"I want to thank the doctors and nurses who were so good and basically saved my life!

"Thank you all again for all your care, love, thoughts, prayers and wishes. All my love, Marianne"

Almost 250,000 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK, with more than 35,000 losing their lives.
