Another contestant eliminated on Celebrity Best Home Cook

Another contestant is eliminated from Celebrity Best Home Cook at the quarter-final stage.

Shobna Gulati has been eliminated from Celebrity Best Home Cook at the quarter-finals stage.

The former Coronation Street actress had impressed the judges in The Rustle-Up with a dish of chickpea masala, chickpea fried bread, pickled onions and cumin rice but her performance in The Ultimate, in which she baked a hard cake that failed to meet the brief, sent her through to the eliminator.

Gulati went up against Tom Read Wilson and Rachel Johnson as they were challenged to cook a trio of Asian starters - broccoli tempura, chicken skewers and prawn gyozas - and after the blind tasting, her fate was confirmed.

"I'm afraid your broccoli wasn't as crunchy as we wanted and your gyoza wasn't filled quite enough," judge Angela Hartnett told her. "But you've cooked for us some amazing dishes in this competition and you'll be missed."

Speaking afterwards, Gulati said: "I think it's tough to leave any competition when you're just so close to the end. It's a shame I'm not in the semi-final but I can still enjoy cooking, so that's a good thing."

Johnson, Wilson, Ed Balls and Ferne McCann now go on to compete in the semi-final, which airs next Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One.
