Jennifer Hudson's Aretha Franklin biopic Respect delayed by seven months

MGM announces that Respect, a biopic starring Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin, has been pushed from January 2021 to the summer.

MGM has announced that Aretha Franklin movie Respect has been delayed from January 15, 2021 to August 13, 2021 as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The biopic stars Jennifer Hudson as the 'Queen of Soul', who won 17 Grammys and sold over 75 million records worldwide during an illustrious career.

Franklin herself selected Hudson for the role before she died in 2018 and the new delay to the film's release is notable as it pushes the movie - and more specifically Hudson - from contention at the 2021 Oscars to 2022 instead.

The studio also announced that Tomb Raider 2, with Alicia Vikander in the Lara Croft role, will now not be released on March 13, 2021.

Filming is yet to commence on the action movie - to be directed by Ben Wheatley - and MGM has yet to indicate a new tentative release date for the sequel.
