Chris Rock performs to a sold-out Boston crowd, days after being attacked by Will Smith live on stage at the Oscars.

Chris Rock revealed that he is "still processing" the shocking incident at the Oscars on Sunday night in his first public appearance since the ceremony.

The watching world was stunned when Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock, who was on stage to present the award for Best Documentary, appeared visibly shaken by the assault but managed to regain his composure and complete his segment.

Smith has since issued a public apology but Rock himself has maintained a silence over the controversy - although he did address it briefly at the start of his stand-up gig at the Wilbur Theater in Boston on Wednesday night.

"I don't have a bunch of shit [to say] about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend," he told the sold-out crowd.

"I'm still kind of processing what happened... So, at some point, I'll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny."

Rock's comments come after the Academy revealed that Smith was asked to leave the ceremony after his outburst but he refused to do so.
