Saint Maud opens in second at UK Box Office

Horror film Saint Maud debuts at number two at the UK Box Office, while Tenet makes it seven weeks on top.

Horror film Saint Maud opened in second position at the UK Box Office over the weekend as the cinema industry continues to struggle.

More chains are expected to close down - or partially close - for the winter months following the decision to delay most major releases planned for this year to 2021 amid ongoing uncertainty due to coronavirus.

Saint Maud - one of the few new releases out in October - follows a nurse in a hospice who is determined to save the soul of one of her terminally-ill patients and has generally been well-received by critics.

Over its opening weekend in the UK the film grossed £263,433 for second in the chart, just behind Tenet, which made it seven weeks at number one with a further £296,049 in box office sales for a total to date of over £16.5 million.

Cult Japanese manga Akira fared well on its re-release, taking third spot with £201,124.

Over the last week Cineworld has closed its UK venues - including Picturehouse - until 2021, while Vue and Odeon have moved to weekend-only operation for some venues.
