New series of Love Island 'could be filmed on Barry Island'

Barry Island is apparently on the shortlist of alternative locations for this year's edition of Love Island.

Barry Island is reportedly being considered as a potential location for this year's edition of Love Island.

The ITV2 dating series was cancelled last summer due to the coronavirus pandemic but producers are said to be adamant that the show will go ahead this year come what may.

Love Island's usual villa on the Balearic island of Majorca remains the top choice of locale, but according to The Sun, several alternatives in the UK are also being earmarked should travel to Spain not be safe in the summer.

"Cornwall has been optioned, as well as Torquay, the Isles of Scilly and even Barry Island, where Gavin & Stacey was filmed," a source told the newspaper.

"ITV bosses are also worried about a fan backlash against the show if contestants are allowed to go away claiming work reasons but the rest of the country is still stuck at home.

"Of course, there are obvious weather restrictions with a UK location - and viewers will see a lot less skin."

More than 100,000 Brits are thought to have applied for the new series, which is expected to begin on ITV2 in July.
