Love Island to be moved to Crete?

Love Island producers are reportedly considering Crete as a potential location for this year's series.

The new series of Love Island could reportedly take place in Crete if coronavirus restrictions mean that travel to Mallorca is not possible this summer.

The show is expected to return to ITV2 in June or July after last year's edition was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Producers are still working on the basis that their usual villa of choice in Mallorca will be used for the show, but have been scouting several UK alternatives - including Barry Island - if COVID-19 makes it impractical.

According to The Sun, executives are also considering the more glamorous option of the Greek island of Crete, where summer temperatures average 27 degrees.

"In a perfect world Love Island would be filmed at original villa they use in Mallorca," a source told the newspaper.

"But the pandemic has meant contingency plans are more important than ever and other locations have been discussed for the show.

"The Greek island of Crete was one which became a favourite due to its accessibility and stunning locations.

"Nothing is off the cards for Love Island at the moment."

More than 100,000 Brits are said to have applied to be on the new series.
