Glynis Barber joins Hollyoaks playing a gangster character called Norma.

Former EastEnders and Emmerdale star Glynis Barber has joined the cast of Hollyoaks playing a gangster called Norma.

The character arrives in the village in a hearse in the coming weeks, wanting to find answers about who has been stealing her money - seemingly putting her on a direct collision course with Ste (Kieron Richardson) and Sienna (Anna Passey).

"I'm really excited to be playing Norma as she's an amazing character," said Barber, who is also known for Dempsey & Makepeace.

"Formidable, complex and taking on the men and leaving them quaking in their boots. The team and cast at Hollyoaks have been incredibly welcoming and I can't wait to get my teeth into the character."

Hollyoaks continues weeknights on Channel 4 and E4, with episodes now available first each day on All 4.
