Angela Lonsdale - known for her role as Emma Watts on Coronation Street - makes her Hollyoaks debut as Joseph's mum Gill.

Angela Lonsdale has joined the cast of Hollyoaks playing Gill, the mother of wayward teen Joseph (Olly Rhodes).

The actress previously appeared in Coronation Street between 2000 and 2003 as policewoman Emma, the wife of street stalwart Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy).

Gill's first appearance came this week and she is expected to play an important part in the weeks ahead amid the ongoing investigation into the murder of Saul (Chris Charles).

Speaking about the role, Lonsdale - also known for Our Girl - said: "I can't wait for the viewers to see this important storyline unfold over the next few months."

Viewers are aware that Joseph was responsible for knifing Saul before he planted evidence incriminating DeMarcus (Tomi Ade), who is now serving time in young offenders.
