Piers Morgan criticised for Larry King tribute

Piers Morgan is accused of being disrespectful for his Twitter tribute following the death of broadcasting great Larry King.

Piers Morgan has doubled down on a questionable tribute to Larry King following the broadcasting legend's death today.

The prolific interviewer died at the age of 87 in Los Angeles this morning, several weeks after being admitted to hospital with coronavirus.

In his first tweet about King, the Good Morning Britain host wrote: "RIP Larry King, 87. A television legend."

Morgan then followed it up with the message: "Larry King was a hero of mine until we fell out after I replaced him at CNN & he said my show was 'like watching your mother-in-law go over a cliff in your new Bentley.' (He married 8 times so a mother-in-law expert) But he was a brilliant broadcaster & masterful TV interviewer."

After receiving criticism from some followers accusing him of being disrespectful, he posted: "Larry loved that mother-in-law joke, and he would have found the hysterical reaction to my tribute ridiculous."

King worked at CNN for more than 25 years hosting the flagship show Larry King Live.
