Dr Hilary Jones pays tribute to Piers Morgan following his Good Morning Britain departure, describing him as "generous to a fault and very loyal".

Good Morning Britain's resident health expert Dr Hilary Jones has paid tribute to Piers Morgan following his resignation from the show earlier this week.

Morgan dramatically stepped down from the breakfast show on Tuesday amid mounting pressure following his fierce criticism of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Reflecting on his departure on Thursday's edition of GMB, Jones said: "You know, he took politicians to account and he asked the secondary question.

"He did not just let it go when a politician gave him the first answer. He probed and he pushed.

"He was well researched and I think he did champion the little people, and the people who had no voice.

"And I think we should not forget him. He is generous to a fault and very loyal. We all know him off-screen, personally.

"And, yes, of course he had his strong opinions and that polarises people into either complaining or praising and he was always going to get his critics.

"But you know, people often shout louder when they are criticising rather than praising."

Morgan's final edition hosting the show on Tuesday turned out to be the first time ever that GMB beat rival BBC Breakfast in the ratings.
