Doctor Hilary warns of second wave of coronavirus in two weeks

Good Morning Britain's Doctor Hilary Jones warns of a second wave of coronavirus in just a fortnight's time.

Good Morning Britain's Doctor Hilary Jones has warned that the UK could be hit by a second wave of coronavirus deaths in a fortnight's time.

The government has started to ease lockdown restrictions as the number of daily deaths from COVID-19 continues to reduce, with 55 deaths reported last Sunday - the lowest number since early March, before lockdown started.

As the population attempt to return to normality, however, there are fears that there could be a fresh surge in infections and additional deaths.

"If we do see one I think it will be a less significant than the first," Jones told Lorraine Kelly. "However, let's hope we don't have one at all."

Asked by Kelly when a second wave might come, he replied: "In the next two weeks."

The UK has now recorded more than 41,000 deaths as a result of coronavirus, the second highest tally in the world after the US's 116,000 deaths.
