41 countries to compete at Eurovision 2022
Eurovision 2022 will feature 41 countries competing in Turin, it is announced, with Armenia and Montenegro both returning to the contest.

Organisers of the Eurovision Song Contest have revealed the 41 countries that will be participating in Turin next year.

Following Maneskin's triumph in Rotterdam earlier this year, Italy will be hosting the competition for the third time in its history, with Turin being named as the host city last week.

Today it was confirmed that all 39 countries who participated in Rotterdam will return to compete in 2022, in addition to Armenia, who had been due to take part in 2021 but withdrew due to political issues. Montenegro will also be taking part for the first time since 2019.

Martin Osterdahl, Eurovision's executive supervisor, said: "We are so excited that we once again have over 40 broadcasters competing to win the iconic Eurovision trophy in Turin next May.

"The team from Rai are working hard on preparations to welcome all the delegations to a new Host City and ensuring the Eurovision Song Contest will provide the excitement and state-of-the-art spectacle expected by nearly 200 million viewers."

The so-called Big Five countries - France, hosts Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK - automatically get places in the grand final on May 14, meaning 36 countries will battle out for the other places during the semi-finals on May 10 and May 12.
