Jodie Whittaker 'quits Doctor Who'

Jodie Whittaker reportedly decides to step down from Doctor Who after the next series.

Jodie Whittaker has reportedly decided to quit as The Doctor after the next series of Doctor Who.

The 38-year-old became the first female actor to take on the iconic role in 2017, replacing Peter Capaldi, and will have appeared in three full series and multiple specials by the time she leaves.

A show source told The Mirror: "It's all very hush-hush but it is known on set that Jodie is leaving and they are gearing up for a regeneration.

"Her departure is top secret but at some point over the coming months the arrival of the 14th Doctor will need to be filmed. It's very exciting."

The new series, which will feature comedian John Bishop as The Doctor's new companion, is currently being filmed and will air at the end of the year.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall, who took over the series at the same time as Whittaker became The Doctor, is expected to remain in his role following her exit.
