Lady Gaga is reportedly in talks to play Harley Quinn in the upcoming sequel to Joker.

Lady Gaga is said to be in talks about playing Harley Quinn in the upcoming sequel to Joker.

The movie - released in 2019 - received almost universal acclaim for its dark take on the Batman villain, with Joaquin Phoenix winning a Best Actor Oscar for playing the titular role.

In a surprise move, the follow-up from director Todd Phillips will be a musical with the title Joker: Folie à Deux, a reference to a shared delusional disorder.

According to Variety, Gaga is in "early negotiations" about playing Quinn, Joker's long-term partner-in-crime, having previously worked with Phillips on A Star Is Born.

The publication also says that Phoenix is expected to reprise his role as Joker for the sequel but has yet to sign on the dotted line.

The movie is not expected to begin filming until next year, suggesting that a release may not take place until 2024.
