Coronation Street star Ellie Leach is to leave her role as Faye Windass after 12 years.

Ellie Leach has quit her role as Faye Windass on Coronation Street after 12 years, it has emerged.

The 22-year-old actress - cousin of former Corrie star Brooke Vincent - joined the soap in 2010 and has since been involved in storylines such as teen pregnancy, sexual assault and early menopause.

According to The Sun, Leach has now decided to leave the show and is preparing to film her final scenes, which will air in July.

"Ellie's been on the soap since she was 10 years old so it's all she's known, she sees the cast like an extension of her family," a source told the newspaper.

"She's sad to be leaving, but grateful that her character won't be killed off. She's going to have a go at trying other acting roles for a bit."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
