Coronation Street 'on verge of return to filming'

Coronation Street is reportedly finalising procedures to enable filming of new episodes to resume.

Coronation Street is said to be in "the final stages" of agreeing a protocol to allow filming of new episodes to resume.

Production on the world's longest-running soap was brought to a halt by coronavirus in March and as a result it will drop off air at some point next month unless new episodes can be filmed in short order.

A change in government guidelines this week paved the way for TV shows to get back to work and according to the Daily Mail, ITV have almost completed plans to make the Corrie set a safe environment.

"ITV is in the final stages of working with others across the industry on a return-to-production protocol and we are in active discussions with Government on this," a spokesperson told the newspaper.

"We will share further updates in due course."

Coronation Street continues Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights on ITV.
