Coronation Street star Andrew Still admits that his character Justin's acid attack story was "pretty grim" to film.

Coronation Street star Andrew Still has admitted that he was "a little bit intimidated" filming his character Justin's acid attack scenes.

Over the last several months Justin has developed an increasingly-unhealthy and terrifying obsession with Daisy (Charlotte Jordan), culminating in tonight's episode as he visited her just before she was due to get married.

Brandishing a bottle of acid, Justin approached Daisy intent on ruining her appearance for life, but at the last moment Ryan (Ryan Prescott) intervened and instead found himself the victim of the horrendous attack.

"I had no idea that Justin was going to go that far," Still told press. "To be honest, I was a little bit intimidated because it's such an awful crime. You really want to do it justice and give the subject matter the seriousness it deserves.

"I felt that, as long as I did my research and gave everything to the character and the story, hopefully it would resonate with the audience."

He continued: "[The scenes] weren't very fun. They were pretty grim, but everyone on set was really brilliant and gave it the respect that it deserved.

"It felt really disgusting to give those lines and go through that action. I spoke about that with Charlie on the day as well.

"It's an incredibly hateful, nasty thing to do. If you're going to play it truthfully, you have to try and deal with those emotions, so it was horrible but hopefully that translates on screen."

The episode concluded with Justin finally getting his comeuppance as Daisy managed to lure him out of his car, allowing the police to swoop in and arrest him.

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
