Sky Q to release raft of HDR movies, new features before Christmas

Sky announces plans to release more than 40 movies in HDR quality via Sky Q in time for Christmas.

Sky has announced that it will make more than 40 movies available in HDR quality via Sky Q in the run-up to Christmas.

The expansion of HDR - High Dynamic Range - content will see the entire Harry Potter franchise, the Oscar-winning Joker and the Back To The Future trilogy made available in the ultra high quality format, in addition to Sky Originals such as Gangs of London and Chernobyl.

The release of the movies will coincide with a raft of new changes to Sky Q, including the launch of a new 'HDR' symbol to highlight content available in the format.

The new "whatever the weather" feature means that recordings, on-demand content and apps will remain available even if the satellite signal is lost due to poor weather, while the voice search functionality has been improved and a personalised 'What's On Now and Next' bar will be rolled out to the homepage.

The changes will be rolled out to Sky Q boxes over the coming weeks.

In a separate development, Sky has also announced a series of improvements to Sky Go, including the launch of red button video streams via the app.
