Tom Harwood is promoted to Deputy Political Editor at GB News as the channel gears up to expand its political coverage.

Tom Harwood has been promoted to the new position of Deputy Political Editor at GB News, it has been announced.

The news comes days after the channel appointed Christopher Hope as its new Political Editor as a replacement for Darren McCaffrey, who is leaving later this year.

Harwood, 26, has been with GB News since it launched almost two years ago and hosts his own weekday show, The Briefing, at 9.30am.

As part of his new role, Harwood will "extend his on-air presence in a series of new political and national affairs programmes" while also helping Hope to expand the channel's political coverage.

GB News editorial director Michael Booker said: "Tom has proved himself one of the UK's most knowledgeable and insightful political journalists.

"The main battleground for the next election will be in the heartlands of non-metropolitan Britain and Tom's incredible insight into the pulse of the nation will be key for our audience in what will be another major political year."

In recent months GB News has added more faces from the world of politics to its presenting team, with the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg, Camilla Tominey, Andrew Pierce and Michael Portillo all launching their own shows.
