DAZN secures a share of the Spanish broadcast rights to La Liga in its latest major acquisition.

Streaming service DAZN has pulled off another shock acquisition by gaining a share of the domestic rights to La Liga in Spain.

The broadcaster has been stealthily picking up sporting rights and launching in multiple countries over the last few years - and recently pulled off a major coup in Italy, ousting Sky as the primary broadcaster of Serie A to gain rights to all 380 games a season.

Now DAZN has been awarded the Spanish broadcast rights to around half of the games in La Liga as part of a five-year deal running through to the end of 2026-27. Movistar has the rights to five games a week, plus three full matchdays, with DAZN getting the remainder.

James Rushton, co-CEO of DAZN Group, said: "The award of these LaLiga rights represents a strategic local investment for us in a key market and is all part of the global momentum that we are driving across our business, which continues at pace.

"This is further proof that we are well past the tipping point in the migration of fans from viewing sports on linear pay TV, to streaming services."

DAZN is also believed to be in discussions about acquiring BT Sport in the UK, a move which would give it UK rights to the Premier League and Champions League.
