Channel 4 announces that it will broadcast the comedy series starring Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy this Sunday night.

Channel 4 has announced that it will show Servant of the People, the comedy series starring Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, this Sunday.

The 44-year-old began his career as a comedy actor, and in the 2015 political satire series Servant of the People, he played a regular 30-something man who unexpectedly became elected as the president of Ukraine.

In 2019 life imitated art when Zelenskyy went on to be elected president for real - and in recent weeks he has become globally admired for leading his country as they face invasion from Russia.

Channel 4 will show three episodes of the comedy this Sunday night from 10.35pm, as well as a half-hour current affairs special called Zelenskyy: The Man Who Took on Putin earlier in the night at 6.45pm.

"We know from the huge audiences coming to our comprehensive news coverage of the war in Ukraine that our viewers have a real thirst to understand the conflict and the individuals who are shaping it," said Ian Katz, Channel 4's chief content officer.

"In the space of a few weeks Volodymyr Zelenskyy has become one of the most admired and speculated about men in the world and broadcasting our current affairs special, Zelenskyy: The Man Who Took on Putin and Servant of the People across Sunday night will give viewers access to deep insight into how he shot to political prominence, the foundations of his popular appeal and his intuitive grasp of how to exploit both traditional and social media.

"The battle in Ukraine is as much an information war as a military one and these two programmes will show that Zelenskyy was a formidable information warrior long before he was a war leader."

The complete first and second series of Servant of the People will also be added to All 4 at a future date.
